FAQs

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy looks at the whole body in its approach to assess and treat different conditions. It is a manual therapy that evaluates how the body's structure and function work together to help improve overall health, mobility and pain. This is done by using evidence based techniques to have an effect on the neuro-musculoskeletal system, promoting the body's natural ability to self-heal.

How many treatments will I need?

It depends on the presenting condition. Usually, you should notice changes in your symptoms after 1-2 treatments. However, long-term and chronic issues might need more treatments.

What should I bring with me?

It can be helpful to bring any X-rays, scans or test results.

What should I wear?

It is important to wear something comfortable. It is expected that you will need to remove shoes, coat and belt for the assessment. There may be times to help with the assessment and treatment of an area that your osteopath may ask if you can undress to your underwear. This isnt always needed and only if you are comfortable to do so. It may be helpful to bring a pair of shorts to change into if you are wearing restrictive pants or skirt to your appointment. Towels are used during treatment to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
